Joseph is a fruitful vine, a fruitful vine near a spring, whose branches climb over a wall. When we read Genesis 49:22-26, we see that Joseph had so many walls (challenges) around him. But his branches did not consider the walls. In fact, his branches climbed over the walls. We too have a lot of walls around us, but how many of us have given up just because of the barriers around us? Your boss told you that you cannot do something, and you decided to listen to him, your relatives told you not to marry that man/woman, and you gave in, you refused to apply for a good job because you did not believe in yourself, that you can actually deliver. I remember I was scared to teach my first big class that had 42 students. I had never taught such a big class before. I knew that some of my students would be mature working students and would have high expectations for the course. I gave all kinds of excuses not to take that class but God had His own plan and so I couldn’t run from it and I had to teach that class. I am now in my third month of classes and I always ask myself, “what was I scared of. Yani I would have missed this awesome opportunity?”
You are as limited as you want to. The only limitation that exists in you is your mind. Your words are like your garment, they cloth you. If you tell yourself that you are a failure, and a failure you are/shall be.
1Kings 19:4-8 Elijah was to travel for forty days and forty nights but after traveling for only one day, he was already tired till he told God to take his life because he couldn’t take it no more. His situation can very well be compared to most of the situations we face. We have a number of journeys that we need to complete but we get tired too fast. Yesterday I attended my friend’s wedding. She is a Kamba by tribe and her husband is a Lugha by tribe. The two had postponed their wedding from 20th June to 21st June. She told me that the man’s parents had refused her completely because of her tribe. So the man has been fighting for the past two years up to the final day, until her mother disowned him. My friend fought this battle with prayer. Finally the parents accepted and hence the wedding was scheduled on 21st June. Let us compare Elijah’s situation and my friend’s situation; Elijah gave up on day one of his challenge, but upon being given food by God, he regained his strength and completed the 40 day 40 night journey. My friend’s prayers gave her fiancée at that time and her strength to fight. Lesson we learn here is that human strength cannot take you any were, human strength took Elijah one day, but the strength of Jehovah took him 40 days and 40 nights. We require Gods strength in our journey.
Areas we need strength.
- Strength to create: Every man creates. We create poverty, our troubles, our marriages, our relationships etc.
- Strength to deliver: Ability to give birth to what God has placed on us e.g. new job, new business, marriage, relationships.
- Strength to sustain: People usually begin well with a good business, a good marriage etc. but years later, we hear the business collapsed or the marriage is on the rocks, or the couple divorced, or they broke up etc. It is easy to start but hard to sustain.
There are so many things we have started in life, but no strength to sustain it.
Ask God to give you strength to sustain whatever you have created and delivered. Do not accept miscarriages.
- Strength to finish and to finish well: There are many who finish but do not finish well.
Let us dig deeper on the strength to create.
- Strength to create
Deuteronomy 8:18: But remember the Lord your God for it is He who gives you the strength/ability to produce wealth, and so confirms His covenant , which He swore to your forefathers as it is today.
You cannot create your own strength.
Genesis 1:26: God created man so that he dominates and not to be dominated. Do not live your life at the mercy of anyone.
Genesis 2: 3-5: God had created everything but they were not existing yet. See verse 4. When the Lord God made the earth and the heavens, verse 5 and no shrub of the field had yet appeared on the earth and no plant of the field had yet sprung up, for the Lord had not sent rain on earth and there was no man to work the ground. Read again carefully Genesis 2: 3-5. We see that when the Lord lay the foundations of the earth, He had you in mind. Think of it like this, those many years ago when God was laying the foundations of the earth, he knew that you were going to be born and knew your destiny, knew what would be your first job, who you’d get married to, how many kids you are going have etc. So He has is all under control. In 2 Peter 1: 3, we see that His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. If I knew this years ago, I tell you I would not have cried for the boys who broke my heart to pieces, used me and dumped me. I would have already known that God has plans for me and they were just stepping-stones. I call them boys because I have my definition of real men and real men cannot do such outrageous things. The knowledge of God’s word has opened my mind and my eyes. As we have read in 2 Peter and Genesis, I now know that as God was laying the foundations of the earth, He knew that Boshez was going to be born on May and through His divine power, He will give me everything I need for life. He has already given me a spouse, kids, a house etc. Just that they have not sprung up but they will in His right timing just the same way his Word sprung to me at just the right time.
Read Isaiah 7: 14: God saw 1000yrs from when Isaiah said this words. God had already seen that 1000yrs to come there will be a virgin, not just any woman but a virgin who will give birth to a son who will be called Emmanuel. See he even knew what the son’s name will be. God is so organized.
There are many things that exist in us waiting to be manifested. There are some challenges that we think will indeed kill us, but they were not part of Gods package for us when He was laying the foundations and that is why you managed to get past the challenges.
What you refuse to create you will never enjoy. If you refuse to create a good marriage, a good relationship, you will never enjoy. Before God created anything, He first created it in His mind. Anything that God has created in your mind must be manifested.
Mark 7:18-23: The experience of a man does not define a man, what defines a man is his output/ creation.
Your thoughts define you. You may not have actually sinned but if you always think about sin, you are a sinner. As a man thinketh so is he. Hope I said that right.
Proverbs 23:6-7 See here we are warned not to eat food from a stingy man because as he gives you his food, he is already thinking about the cost of that food, and even though he tell you to eat, his heart is not with you. It is your thought that produces your actions.
Always be consistent with your thoughts. Some of us have wonderful thoughts of how we will succeed, how we will work hard etc. but we eventually do not bear the fruits of our thoughts because we are not consistent. We say how hard we will work on our marriages and then doubt it after. Meditate on good things only.
In conclusion, the Journey is great, 40 days and 40 nights, let us ask God for strength
